About Us

Werrimull P-12 School is located in the Millewa region of far north-west Victoria, seventy five kilometres west of Mildura. Werrimull P-12 School's motto is ‘Striving to Achieve’. Our school community is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all endeavours and is proud of its tradition of individual care. We value the right of every child to achieve to their full potential, both academically and physically and aim to create a positive environment in which students are encouraged to gain self-confidence, self-esteem and a sense of pride and direction.

Respect, Responsibility and Resilience are the values shared by our school community. These were developed in consultation with staff, students and the broader community and underpin all school policies, procedures and protocols.

A broad comprehensive curriculum is offered to all students (P-10) and covers all areas of the Victorian Curriculum. A wide range of VCE, VET and VCAL subjects are offered to our senior Year 11 and Year 12 students. Our timetable is structured to utilise the facilities at SuniTAFE each Friday with our Year 10-12 students undertaking a variety of Certificate II and Certificate III courses to suit their individual interests and pathways. Year 10 students are able to undertake Unit 1 & 2 VCE subjects to kickstart their VCE studies if appropriate, this is addressed on an individual basis.

As a P-12 School we value our links with our local kindergarten provider, the Millewa Pre-School, who have worked in partnership with the School since 2011 and now come under the management of Werrimull P-12 School Council. Education, from kindergarten through to post secondary opportunities, is a priority for our school and community. An example of this is our membership in the Mallee Education Cluster (MEC) which is a network of P-12 and Primary schools across the Mallee who are working in partnership with the Country Education Partnership (CEP) to improve educational opportunities for the students within our communities.

Small class sizes offer the opportunity for extra individual attention and monitoring of students. We have one-to-one access to both laptops and iPads across the school as well as smart boards/smart tvs in almost every learning space and access to both Polycom and Cisco Webex Video Conferencing facilities in both our primary and secondary learning areas.

Literacy and Numeracy enhancement and individual needs are addressed across the school through a range of programs which include Mathletics, iMaths, Oxford Maths, Reading Eggs, Literacy Planet, education.com, Word Flyers (7-10), Literature Circles, VCOP and Big Write.

The whole school focus is on improving student outcomes and we use data to inform our teaching on a regular basis. Student progress is monitored using PAT (Progressive Assessment Tests) in Literacy, Mathematics and Science, On Demand testing in Literacy and Numeracy, Essential Assessment for Mathematics, PM Benchmarking for Reading in the Early Years throughout the year as well as informed teacher judgements.

We offer Pathways across the school, P-10, to allow students to experience subjects such as Product Design and Technology (Woodwork, Plastics and Metalwork), Food Studies, Visual Communication and Design, Studio Arts, Graphic Design, Textiles, Music, Drama and other specialist subjects that they may then choose to study in their senior years of schooling. These subjects take advantage of the flexible learning areas that we have across the school including the Discovery Centre (Early Years), Learning Zone (Middle and Upper Primary) and The Hub (Secondary). We also have a fully equipped Art/Textiles Room, Food Room, Tech Room and Science Lab which are utilized by students from K-12.

As well our classroom spaces we have spacious outdoor learning and play areas with playgrounds for both primary and secondary students along with two grassed oval areas, tennis/netball/basketball/volleyball courts and a 16 metre swimming pool.

Students participate in a wide range of extra curricular activities throughout the year including house and interschool sports, camps, subject based excursions and study trips, performances at the Mildura Arts Centre and activities with other schools including similar schools, both primary and secondary, in the Mallee Education Cluster (MEC) and our surrounding area.

Our Year 9 students are lucky enough most years to participate in the School for Student Leadership which has a number of campuses around Victoria and provides them with an alternative learning experience for a term with students from other schools, both regional and metropolitan. The focus of this experience is personal development, leadership and teamwork skills.
